BETWEEN SPACE
Outline
Between Space is one of my coursework and the first 3D video game. This video game is a first-person narrative game like What Remains of Edith Finch. The story is based on the fairy tale The White Stone Canoe, but I modified the details and time of the story. I set the time background of this story in modern America but reserve key traits of this tale such as the soul land, season change, and canoe sailing.

The main character is a forester ranger who lost his fiancée in a storm, one day he receives a message from his fiancée. The moment he went out without hesitation he stepped into the land of souls. Along the way, he experiences strange scenes that he remembers with his fiancée, such as suspension bridges, carnivals, record shops, campsites and canoe sailing on lakes.
Tale Brief
A grieving Chippewayan warrior embarks on a journey to find his deceased fiancée in the land of souls. Guided by nature's changing seasons, he reaches the land's border and enters a paradise where spirits thrive. He and his beloved navigate challenges, reaching a blissful island. Despite the allure, the Master of Life beckons the warrior back to fulfill his earthly duties, leaving his love in eternal happiness.

Tech Stack
Inventory System
I used ScriptableObject class to build a data system and use the Unity UI model to present them. The right bottom 3D model is a real-time rendering model, I render items in an area that is far away from the main play area and stack them to the main camera.

Procedural Material
There are four rocks inside the game, but they are all used one procedural material. I made the material in Substance Designer, import models, baked them and exported the material used in the modified shader in Unity.

Portal
Portals are the main method to switch the different areas of gameplay, and the portal is a real-time render texture sync with the player camera by matrix and use depth value to make sure the views inside the portal are the same as the palyer's vision.
